MCFERRAN, KATHRYN H.

FARMVILLE - Kathryn Houston McFerran, age 89, of Farmville, died Friday. A native of New York, she was born May 20, 1901, a daughter of the late William and Daisy Chapman. Her husband was the late William McFerran. She resided in Pearisburg, Va. prior to moving to Farmville in 1963. In Pearisburg she was in charge of medical records at Giles Memorial Hospital and was active in Christ Episcopal Church. In Farmville she was retired from the Medical Records Dept. at Southside Hospital. Surviving are a sister, Alice Chapman Hall, Bethesda, Md.; and a nephew, John H. Chapman, Manheim, Pa. Graveside funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Birchlawn Cemetery in Pearisburg. Arrangements by Doyne-Burger Funeral Home in Farmville.

WALKER, GLADYS P.

Gladys P. Walker, age 84, born in Tazewell Va., died January 4, 1990. She was a retired school teacher in the Giles County School System. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Sue W. Carlyle, Virginia Beach; Patricia W. DeLisio, Fairfax; one son, Howard P. Walker, Warrenton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, January 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchlawn Cemetery in Pearisburg Va. Dr. Robert Lawrence will officiate. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments of Virginia Beach is handling the arrangements.

CROCKETT, SHERRIE D.

PEARISBURG - Sherrie Darlene Crockett, age 27, died Tuesday, June 4, 1991, because of injuriesreceived on her job. Miss Crockett was born in
Pearisburg, Va., on February 2, 1964, and was the daughter of Cora M. Crockett of Pearisburg and the late Walter G. Crockett, Jr. Besides her mother she is survived by five brothers, Walter G. Crockett, III, Christiansburg; Michael E. Crockett of Christiansburg; Allen Crockett of Floyd; Raymond and Jeff Crockett, both of Pearisburg; one sister, Debra L. Perdue of Pearisburg; three nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Givens Funeral Chapel, Pearisburg, with Bishop Ted J. Johnson, Jr., officiating with burial in Birchlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.

KESSINGER, ANNIE K.

Mrs. Annie Kerr Kessinger, age 94, of Salem, died Saturday. She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Carrol A. and Lois Kessinger, Salem; one sister, Mrs. Gladys Williams, Salem; a grandson, Ronald Kessinger, Salem; a granddaughter, Mrs. Linda Kreitzer, Rocky Mount; a great-grandson, Keith Kreitzer; a great-granddaughter, Lisa Kreitzer. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 28, 1991 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Ellis Meredith and the Rev. Dee Flory officiating. Interment in Birchlawn Cemetery, Pearisburg. Friends may call at Lotz Salem Chapel.

MARTIN, BESSIE L.

Bessie Lillian Martin, age 83, died Saturday morning in a Roanoke hospital. A native of Giles County, she was the daughter of the late Christopher and Ella Cumbee. She was preceded in death by two children, Eunice Sabat and Hayes Martin. Surviving are one son, Ray Martin, Tampa, Fla; one daughter, Margaret M. Giles, Tampa, Fla.; a close niece, Phyllis Prescott, Richmond; a special great-niece, Michelle Markley Gillespie, Christiansburg; a half sister, Claudie Farley, Nemours, Va.; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel, Pembroke, with the Rev. Shahn Wilbert officiating. Burial will be in the Birchlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday evening.

NOWLIN, EDNA F.

CHRISTIANSBURG - Edna Fletcher Nowlin, age 72, died Wednesday, December 26, 1990, following a long illness. Mrs. Nowlin was born in Pearisburg, Va. on May 25, 1918, and was a daughter of the late William Basil Fletcher and Viva Scott Fletcher. She was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Spencer (Giggs) Nowlin. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jean Nowlin Woodyard, Christiansburg; one son, Warren Spencer Nowlin Jr., Madison Heights, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Goldie Thomas, Christiansburg; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted in Birchlawn Burial Park Friday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Peter DuPlessis officiating. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home, Pearisburg, Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

AMELONG, NELLIE M.

Nellie Rose Amelong, age 76, died Sunday evening in a Blacksburg hospital. She was born in Vivian, W. Va. She is the daughter of the late Peter Joseph and Grace Elmore McAlarnis. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Pearisburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil Amelong. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Joe Sharpe, Pembroke; three grandchildren, Emily Johnston, St. Simon Island, Ga.; Glenn D. Sharp, Hazard, Ky.; and Annette Widrig, Stuart, Fla.; two great-granddaughters, Jennifer Sharpe and Crystal Sharpe, both of Hazard, Ky.; two sisters, Maurine Castegnaro, Hardburley, Ky.; and Virginia Basso, Hazard, Ky. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel, Pembroke. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

PEARISBURG - Emma Margaret Nutter DeBusk, age 92, died Sunday, December 16, 1990. Mrs. DeBusk was born in Smyth County, Va. on November 11, 1898, and was a daughter of the late William Nutter and Frances Elizabeth Mays Nutter. She was a member of the Pearisburg Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Franklin DeBusk Sr., and a son, Paul Edward DeBusk. She is survived by two sons, Robert Franklin DeBusk Jr. of Benton, La., Richard A. DeBusk of Ripplemead, Va.; six daughters, Frances D. Stafford, Pearisburg; Barbara DeBusk, Princeton, W.Va.; Sue Deck, Pearisburg; Jean Burris, Radford; Betty Wheeler, Birmingham, Ala.; Doris Thomas, Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Robert F. Nutter, Glade Spring; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Givens Funeral Chapel with interment in Birchlawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pearisburg Christian Church.
