Jan. 3, 1973 --

JOHN M. ABEL -- John M. Abel, 56 of Rt. 1, Tazewell, died Sunday Dec. 17 in a Richlands hospital following a long illness. Survivors include his widow, Esther Harrison Abel; one son, Roger Abel with the US Army; four daughters, Mrs. Lillian Perkins of Tazewell, Brenda Abel of Seabrook Md. and Sandra and Ruby Abel of the home; one grandson; seven brothers, George Reese, Albert and Harvey Abel of Chilhowie, Frank Abel of Maxwell, and Fred Abel of North Tazewell and Charlie Abel of Spotsylvania. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 20 in the home with Elders Landon Colley and Stuart Owens officiating. Burial followed in
Maplewood Cemetery, Tazewell.

MRS. M.H. LOWE SR. -- Mrs. M.H. Lowe, Sr. 91, of
709 Big Creek Road, Richlands, died Tuesday night, Dec. 26 in a Richlands hospital following a long illness. Born in McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late Powell S. and Elizabeth Short Ellis and was a member of the Christian Church. Her husband M. H. Lowe Sr. and two daughters preceded her in death. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. O. D. (Mae) Altizer of Cedar Bluff, Mrs. Oscar (Lou) Joyce, Mrs. Bud (Eula) Altizer, and Mrs. Hubert (Clara) Nunan, all of Richlands, Mrs. Marvin (Ruth) Alley of Tazewell, and Mrs. Timothy (Roberta) Williams of Williamsburg, VA. two sons, Powell R. Lowe of Jewell Ridge, and Mathias H. Lowe Jr. of Richlands; 30 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral services were held Friday at the Richlands Presbyterian Church with Rev. J. B. Hollenhead, Rev. Charles A. Vaughn, and Dr. T. A. Freeman officiating. Burial followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

MAMIE BONHAM -- Mamie H. Bonham, 79 of the Bluefield Tazewell Road, Springville died Sunday, Dec. 24 in a Bluefield hospital following a short illness. Born in Tazewell County she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Nancy Bowling Brooks. She was a member of Mountain View Church of Christ, Tazewell Road. Survivors include one step-daughter, Mrs. Carl Burnett of Roanoke, and one stepson, Douglas J. Bonham of Roanoke; four brothers, Lindsey Brooks and Oscar Brooks of North Tazewell, George W. Brooks of Bluefield and James C. Brooks of Ocala, FL.  Funeral services were conducted Dec. 28 in Dudley Memorial Chapel, Bluefield with REv.
Clarence Jessee and Rev. Robert Kitts officiating. Burial followed in
Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield Tazewell Road. Pallbearers; William McDarmont, Herb Bowman, Bill Helmandollar, Richard Jessee, Robert
Kitts and Eugene Kinder.


MRS. HARRIET PORTER -- Mrs. R. L. (Harriet) Porter, 87, of
Monroe Ohio, formerly of North Tazewell died Dec. 26 in a Middletown Ohio, hospital after a short illness. Her husband, Robert L. Porter, preceded her in death. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. F. L. James of Norfolk, Va, Mrs. W. E. Waters of Chesapeake, Va. Mrs. Clifford Green of Monroe, Mrs. Janis Kirk of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Robert Rasnick of North Tazewell; two sons, Robert L. Porter Jr. of Miami FL., and Jack Porter of Norfolk; 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were Friday at Peery and St. Clair Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Horace Henry in charge. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery.  Grandsons were pallbearers.

ANNIE TIBBS -- Funeral services for Annie Tibbs, 69 of Burkes Garden were conducted Thursday in the
Lutheran Church at Burkes Garden with Rev. S.S. Phipps and Rev. Joe McCoy officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She died Dec. 26 in a Richlands hospital following a short illness.  Survivors include her husband, Dewey Tibbs; six sons, Walter Tibbs at home, Richard Tibbs and Dowey Tibbs Jr. of North Tazewell, James Tibbs of Burkes Garden, and Harvey and Charlie Tibbs of North Augusta, SC.; three sisters, Bessie Yost of Gratton, Nora Kitts of Staunton, Va., and Katherine Deskins of Keystone; three brothers, James Crutchfield of Median, Ohio, Charles Crutchfield, of Burkes Garden and Robert Crutchfield of Purcleville, Va.  and 11 grandchildren.  Greever Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

VIOLET S. PRUETT -- Funeral services for Violet Silas Pruett, 84, of
Bluefield who died Tuesday, Dec. 26, in a Bluefield hospital after a short illness, were conducted Friday at Greever Funeral Home with Rev. John Hunt officiating. Burial followed in Grandview Memory Gardens on  Bluefield Tazewell road. He was a retired miner. Survivors include one daughter, Cecila  Margaret Brookman of Elliston, Va. two sisters, Mrs. Kitty Linkous of Centerburg, Ohio, and Mrs. Ida Mae Hall of North Tazewell, five grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and thre great great grandchildren.
