ONCE GREW A BIGGER RADISH
  • The story in last week's paper of the big radish grown by young Sonny Elswick, prodded the memory of C.G. Scott , of Swords Creek, to recall a radish he grew when he lived in Richlands back in 1912 which was 22 inches long and 7 inches in diameter.  Mr. Scott said he had an old ash dump in his garden in which he doubted that anything would grow, but decided to plant radishes in the spot. A flourishing crop developed and included the "papa" radish above described.  Mr. Scott says his story can be corroborated by Paul Hunter, who was at that time proprietor of the Richlands Pharmacy. The radish was on display in his window for several days.
