David Jessee Blankenship, 88, died at his home Monday night at Sword’s Creek after several week’s illness.

He was born at Raven, the son of the late William and Louise McGlothlin Blankenship, Russell County natives. He was a miner and sawmill worker.

Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Maranda McGlothlin; four children, Sylvester and Otto Blankenship of Cedar Bluff, Mrs. Maude Steele and Mrs. Leola Vandyke, Sword’s Creek ; one sister , Mrs. Ida Moore, Sparta, Oh.; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great- grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel, Thursday afternoon at 1 PM with Rev. Peery Herndon and Rev. Johnny Herndon officiating. Burial it the Greenhills Memory Gardens. The body remained at the funeral home
