GRACE JEWELL HARRIS BROWN

Mrs. Grace Jewell Harris Brown, age 59, of Gateway Drive, Richlands-Cedar Bulff, VA, died at her home September 15, 1984 following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Tazewell County, VA and was a daughter of the late Jacob Milton and Sarah Louise (Tatum) Harris, both Tazewell County natives.  She was a waitress/manager in area restaurants for over 40 years and was last employed as manager of the Richlands Dairy Queen until January 1983.  She had made her home in the Richlands area her entire life and was a member of the Raven Assenbly of God Church.  She was preceded in death by two children Florence Letisha Brown and Richard Dean Brown, both dying at birth/shortly after birth;  two sisters Mrs. Bessie M. Brewster and Mrs. Ethel Davis; and one brother Bascom E. Harris.  Survivors are husband John Ratliff Brown; one daughter Mrs. William (Rita) Sluder of Cedar Bluff, VA.; one sister Mrs. Lorraine Hunnell of Tampa, FL;  and one brother Sherman Harris of Marion, VA.  Funeral services were conducted September 17, 1984 at 3:30 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Claudie Throgmartin officiating.  Interment followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA.  Pallbearers were Don Vandyke, Hank Shrader, Bob Shepherd, Gene Nolley, Ralph Davis, Clyde Helton, Jim Hale, and Gratton Webb.  Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Joe Adair, C. T. Adair, Joe Tatum, Buddy Tatum, Elmer Tatum, Sam Tatum, Clyde Barrett and Claude Barrett.
