WILLIAM ELGIN HAYES- William Elgin Hayes, 71 died at his home in Horsepen, Va., Feb. 02, 1948 after a long illness. He was the son of Thomas C. Hayes and Sarah Effler Hayes.  He was proceeded in death by his first wife Lorena Billips Hayes.  He was survived by his wife Barbara L. Cartwright, two sons Gilbert Hayes and wife Nora Day Hayes,  William E. Hayes, Jr. and wife Gladys Burton Hayes, two daughters, Martha Hayes Nunley and her husband John Nunley, Lynn Hayes Harmon and Husband Edd Harmon, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Horsepen Church of Christ with  Charley Sublette Officiating, burial in the Horsepen Church of Christ Cemetery.
